This was so painful to read. Descriptions that should've taken one sentence purple-prosed into overly long paragraphs. I found myself laughing at the corniness and second-hand embarrassment.

Complete with The Earth Moved and blah blah blah. Excessive emphasis on how the heroine is a tiny, pixie-like "little flower" compared to the big, strong, powerful male? Check. Heroine goes from normal to super powered and oh my gosh she doesn't even realize how beautiful and wonderful and super teenie tiny yet sexxah she is? Check.

What little plot it had was smothered in flowery purple prose and I had to skim/skip it to finish reading. If you really want to read this book, consider borrowing from a friend/library; don't waste your money.

The story
The demons are part of the nightwalker group. The demons are of the earth. There are demons of the mind, body, air, water, fire, and earth. Jacob is of the earth he is also the Enforcer. He is in charge of protecting humans from demons, it is forbidden. While walking around New York Jacob catches Isabella who fell out her window. The chemistry is instant, Isabella senses trouble and leads Jacob straight to who he was tracking. After Bella kills the transformed demon, something a human has never done, Jacob takes her to his home. Jacob gets caught with a human and both are taken to the king, Noah's, home. Isabella the librarian starts reading through the archives, prophecy's and laws. The Demon community will never be the same after her discoveries. Jacob and Isabella are compelled to stay near each other, but it is forbidden. Human necromancers are out to kill the demons, they have no protection against the summoning that transformers demons by their black evil magic.....

Thoughts
There aren't many books I'd re-read, but this is one of them. I just finished it for the second time, it was just as good. The pace is fast enough to keep me captivated. I couldn't put it down again. I think Jacob is my favorite of this series. Jacob and Bella's chemistry is intense, and comes across on paper nicely. The story and plot are creative and interesting. The characters are likeable, except the bad ones of course. All the characters grow and adapt to new conditions and new lessons to be learned. I really like the others as well, the people whose books are in the following stories. Elijah, Gideon, Legna, Noah. Anyone who enjoys a paranormal romance could like this novel.
I found this book, plus the "Gideon" and "Elijah" books in the series under the search for "vampire romance novels". This book (and the others) have nothing whatsoever to do with vampires. Instead, the story is centered around Jacob, The Enforcer, who is a Demon type of police officer who is responsible for protecting humans from demons during their semi-annual "mating" times. Due to his job he is very lonely and subsequently runs into a human woman who he "Imprints" with. She turns out to be a Druid, which is another demon form. Of course, she is a virgin and oh so innocent, but at the same time a strong fighter. There's plenty of hot sex and some action when the Necromancers get involved. I found the plot to be ridiculous and inaccurate. Demons that fall in love and protect humans??? I love vampire novels because I know they're not real and in the stories you at least know whether they are friend or foe. The only really good thing about this novel was the sexual tension and the hot, sensual interludes.

Books 2 and 3, "Gideon" and "Elijah" have almost the same exact story-line and the same type of descriptions for the hero and the heroine. Every male is tall, muscular, gorgeous, and long-haired. Every female is curvy, beautiful, innocent, and long-haired. If I had not ordered all three at once I wouldn't have ordered after reading the first. I will not be ordering the next in the series.
I absolutely loved the romance in this book. It was beyond perfect. I wish more authors wrote books with little to no angst between H&h, because I never understand why readers want to read about people battling their feelings for each other.
I took off 1 star simply because I wanted more action in the book. To be honest if I could have rated it a 4.5 I would have.
The sexy times in this book were beautifully done.

The audio version of this book was fantastic. Probably one of my favorite. I don't praise many audio books because to be quite honest I usually like them.
